Shopify Online Store 2.0 and More

Shopify has just announced what they've been working on recently.

Here's a look at the most important updates.

ONLINE STORE 2.0

• A completely new version of Shopify's front-end (the old one can still be used).
• More flexibility and focus on performance (many more UX/UI options + generally much faster).
• Sections can be used across all content.
• New theme editor.
• Theme app extensions make it easier to use apps in themes.
• Shopify has released the first new theme: Dawn
• Netflix.shop is the first live shop running on Online Store 2.0

METAFIELDS

• Metafields can be managed directly in Shopify.
• Field validation (pretty cool).
• Can be used directly in Online Store 2 themes.

CUSTOM CONTENT

• Custom Content is coming later.
• Shopify's new Content Management Platform.

CHECKOUT

• Overall, the checkout will be even faster - 10,000+ orders per minute for everyone.
• Checkout Extensions allow apps to add functionality directly in checkout.
• Shopify Scripts (PLUS) will be faster and even more flexible.
• Payments Platform / Payment Apps open up more payment solutions.

...along with a bunch of other more technical things that make Shopify even more amazing! Anything was possible before - now it's just easier :)

_what does it mean for me?

In short: everything is getting better - in a while :)

We can't say yet when you should or need to switch to Online Store 2.0. We expect there will be a period where everything is new, and both themes and apps need to figure out what's happening.
