An employee handbook. Why is that? Because we want to welcome new employees and the rest of the world to our team – the wild squad of fabulous hands-on experienced webshop lovers.
We are detail-oriented super coders who aren't afraid to look up and meet customers at eye level. We're known for speaking frankly, and that's why our employee handbook is, of course, freely accessible to everyone. If there's a Shopify champ out there somewhere, we hope they'll get excited. Just give us a call!
We have divided the employee handbook into three main themes: The Stomach, The Heart, and The Brain. The Stomach, because we never run out of good energy. The Heart, because we make room for what matters most. The Brain, because we don't leave our head at the door. We are masters at uniting these three elements, and that’s why we love going to work.
We enjoy gathering around the table to discuss everything from new customer leads and weekend plans to home purchases and the perfect Tiramisu recipe. And living in an old pâté factory certainly comes with its own commitments. It practically screams for a great lunch!
We have a voluntary, communal lunch program at a ridiculously low price. We get irresistible meals delivered in exactly the portions we need - day by day. Food waste is the worst! Coffee, tea, and cold drinks are included, all for a total of 375 DKK per month. We'd happily offer it all for free, but this amount ensures you won't be taxed on the calories. Students pay 20 DKK per day.
Coffee
There are certainly some enthusiasts among us, so we have three coffee machines – quick capsule, classic filter, and Italian rocket, which Sebastian can introduce. There's usually coffee brewing, possibly with Kim's home-roasted beans. Prefer tea? We're not compromising here either; let us know if you miss a variant – we love trying new things!
The refrigerator
We are passionate about what we do, and when a new feature suddenly appears, the flames ignite around us. Fortunately, we have plenty of opportunities to extinguish the worst blaze, as the fridge is stocked with all sorts of delicious, colorful, and fancy drinks. Refresh yourself as you please—just remember to sort paper, plastic, metal, glass, and all other waste.
If you're feeling under the weather, stay home and relax so you can return in top shape. There's no shame in being human. Children can also get sick and rarely recover in one day, even though most agreements suggest otherwise.
We know your heart beats for more than just D.TAILS, and if you're just as good at placing a cool cloth on a forehead as you are at coding in Shopify, we are pleased.
There's no need to be a party animal to code in Shopify. We love our work, but we also cherish everything we have at home. So, even though there are plenty of great beers chilled, a Friday bar rarely turns into a wild party. It's not because we're boring; we're just a bit more grown-up. We also invite our families to the annual summer trip—it's incredibly cozy to put faces to the stories behind the scenes.
We have a mantra, and it goes: Be proud of everything you do, and always put yourself in the customer's shoes. By doing so, you cannot be anything but respectful. We only give advice we would follow ourselves, and we communicate at eye level so the customer understands us. We also treat each other with respect: We have each other's back, celebrate each other's victories, and lend a hand where it's needed.
Humor
We love to laugh, and laugh out loud. Dark humor, dad jokes, little antics, and slightly embarrassing mishaps can trigger a wave of laughter through the office. You can't really put a foot wrong—well, you can, but then we'll laugh about it too. In a good way.
Noise
Yes, we laugh out loud, but we also stop again. We're here to work, and that's why it’s relatively calm in the office. We stream a bit of sweet sound, but let us know if we need to turn it down. If you need complete silence, head over to the 'Developer Dungeon'. Here, the silence is absolute. There's coding going on. Shhh!
The errors
Even the most hardcore super coder can make mistakes. That's cool, because mistakes get us to think in new ways, and we can all learn from that. No shame. Be proud. And remember, everything from Viagra to Coca-Cola was invented by mistake.
Lunch & Learn
We love lunch, and we love sharing our knowledge with each other. That's why we've combined the two: Every second Friday, we all gather—either physically or online—for Lunch & Learn. We eat together and spend half an hour learning something new, from tiny adjustments to brand new features. We also review customer cases and discuss what was brilliantly executed and what we could have done differently.
Time
We're a pretty friendly bunch who can get so absorbed in our work that time seems to disappear. That's why we use a project management tool to track our hours. It's invaluable when it comes to planning and billing. At the same time, it ensures that no one gets overwhelmed or bored to tears (okay, that's probably not going to happen). Of course, we don’t stop the clock for bathroom breaks, but if we want to remain the cool place that we are, we need to keep track of time. After all, that's what frees you up to take a wild course on the other side of the world!
A couple of times a year, we ask how things are going. Not just casually over the coffee machine, but based on a global wellbeing tool that considers everything that contributes to your success. Your engagement is crucial because when you're thriving, you provide customers with the absolute best experiences. That's what it's all about.
Your passion for your field and growth is something we support, as it would be unwise not to. We take your development seriously, both professionally and personally.
Your commitment makes customers happy, so we continually assess what you need to stay enthusiastic. We treat everyone equally, which means differently. We provide whatever is necessary.
The gear
We are Mac enthusiasts, which means you’ll receive a sleek laptop when you join us. We update every three years to ensure you always have the best equipment. Your sit-stand desk is, of course, equipped with large monitors, and you get exactly the mouse you prefer. The chair is ergonomically fine-tuned, and if you still develop any knots, our masseur visits a couple of times a month—right in the middle of the workday! There's a small co-payment so you won't be taxed on this charitable perk.
The Meeting Room
We have a large, bright meeting room, which you can reserve in the Google Calendar, preferably well in advance. Remember to cancel if the meeting is rescheduled or held elsewhere. The meeting room is yours until fifteen minutes past the reserved time—if you're delayed, others may use it. Customer parking (parking spot no. 4) is booked in the same place.
Flexibility
Some days you need to leave early—perhaps the sun is shining, and 'family time' tops your agenda. Other days, you might find yourself working late at the office. That's perfectly fine with us, as long as you meet your deadlines. Many of our apps even make working at odd hours easy, convenient, enjoyable, and a bit delightful.
The takeaway
If you're staying at the office into the evening, you definitely shouldn't be disturbed by a growling stomach or a sugar-deprived brain that
{
//only.
//thinks.
//about.
//food.
}
Choose what you want – around a hundred, and the bike courier will come on our tab. Enjoy your meal.
Expenses
If necessary, you can cover expenses on behalf of D.TAILS. Use the money as if it were your own, and always save the receipt. You will be reimbursed through the Payroll app.
