From eBay to Your Own B2B Webshop with Shopify
Pia Simon Rautert – co-owner of Buy2Sell
Buy2Sell started their business on eBay, where they previously conducted 100% of their sales, with a few orders taken via email on the side. With customers in over 100 countries and less than 3% of their sales within the Danish borders, eBay was the perfect gateway to a global market. As growth happened quickly and eBay had its limitations, Buy2Sell decided to open their own sales channel - a B2B shop on Shopify.
Who is
Buy2Sell
Buy2Sell has a clear mission: To put circular economy within industrial electronics on the agenda. Functional electronics should never be discarded but reused.
Buy2Sell has an inventory of over 1000 square meters, sourced from acquisitions and consignment agreements. This typically includes inventory or decommissioned production lines that are often discarded and sorted for scrap. Instead of discarding the goods, Buy2Sell takes them in and sells them on.
Since Buy2Sell's customer and pricing structure didn't necessitate Shopify's full B2B solution, which requires Shopify Plus, they opted instead to stick with Shopify's B2C plan. We then custom-built the necessary B2B functionalities for Buy2Sell's business.
When signing up, customers specify whether they are business or private customers. When 'business' is selected, Buy2Sell's customer service receives an email, allowing them to easily and swiftly access the system, approve the customer, and add a permanent discount to the respective account.
Buy2Sell's complete solution includes the following:

B2B customers have different customer service requirements compared to B2C customers. They expect a more personalized experience and the option for special pricing. This has been addressed by including a 'request a quote' button directly in the cart. Once customers have selected their products, they can either proceed to checkout or request a quote. If the customer requests a quote, the entire order is sent to Buy2Sell's customer service, where they evaluate if the order is large enough for the customer to receive a better price.
From Danfoss to Danlab. Buy2Sell is the right choice when a production needs to be shut down and machinery disassembled. With major clients and a bustling store, Buy2Sell receives thousands of products weekly. Most products are used, but some are new, and even identical products vary in condition when they are used.
To enhance the purchasing experience for customers, we've custom-built a logic that groups identical products based on item number and manufacturer name. As a result, the end-user is presented with all relevant products on a single product page. Simultaneously, Buy2Sell can display all products individually with their own specifications.
With such a large product range, sometimes certain products are displayed on the website before being priced. We've addressed this by adding logic that removes the 'Add to Cart' button when a product is listed at 0 kr. Instead, the button is replaced with a 'Contact our support for price' button, which directs the customer to a support page.
With this solution, we ensure that the webshop reflects the actual inventory even if we haven't priced the items yet. This way, Buy2Sell effectively eliminates a significant bottleneck.
By shifting the sales process from emails and phone calls to Buy2Sell's own e-commerce platform, their customers have gained the ability for self-service. The large volume of independent orders has created a calmer environment in customer service, where employees can now focus more of their energy on building an excellent customer journey—and, of course, growing the company.
