Trollbeads faced an important decision. Their SalesForce solution contract was about to expire, and renewing it would require starting from scratch—not exactly a smooth process! Some of the company's international distributors had already transitioned to Shopify with great success, and with the recent launch of Shopify Markets, Trollbeads had no doubt: A Plus solution with Shopify Markets could encompass the entire global setup in a much more cost-effective and user-friendly way.

The company by the same name is a family business that has been an important part of customers' personal stories since 1976. Trollbeads is headquartered in Copenhagen, and a large distribution network sells these exquisite, handcrafted beads on the global market.

Expensive and complicated

The setup behind Trollbeads is somewhat unique. Many different distributors mean many different solutions. Some prefer to operate independently, while others want to be under one umbrella and have content and new features automatically pushed out. However, onboarding new distributors in the old system was cumbersome. The learning curve for SalesForce was steep.

The news that Shopify had just launched Shopify Markets, offering the possibility of multi-language and multi-currency, led Trollbeads to turn directly to Shopify. And there was a match! Shopify pointed to three agencies capable of tackling the task: one in the UK, one in the Netherlands – and us.

Custom development, excellent customer service, and significant savings

Firstly, Shopify is significantly cheaper than SalesForce, and large sums are also saved on development hours because the company can now develop and create content independently. Among the benefits Trollbeads received are:

Trollbeads has implemented a Plus-solution with Shopify Markets, encompassing nine distributors and 12 markets. The project was a collaboration since Trollbeads themselves have significant expertise in setting up content and code development. Once we guided them in selecting the right theme, they were able to handle a lot on their own.

Advanced wishlist and a virtual jewelry box

We have specially developed two features that are right in line with Trollbeads' spirit: An advanced wishlist and a jewelry box! The wishlist allows visitors to save and share their desires with family and friends, and with the jewelry box, one can create a virtual jewelry box that keeps track of which beads and more the collection contains, as well as note when they were purchased, gifted, by whom, and on what occasion. The jewelry box can also be shared via social media and email.

Content scheduling

We have also made it possible to schedule content in sections and set a date for when it should be published. This is particularly smart if a new collection, for instance, needs to be launched at a specific time – it avoids the need to manually press ‘publish’ across all markets.

The right balls for the right customers

With the transition to Shopify, Trollbeads also faced a logical shift to Klaviyo, because Klaviyo integrates 100% and fully utilizes data from Shopify. And it certainly helped that we have a Klaviyo expert in-house! With the integration of Klaviyo, Trollbeads has gained transparency in their data, providing them the opportunity to personalize the content in their communication with customers.
